Littlehampton - BKSA round 2
Date: 5-7th May 2006
Finished: 3rd, ladies (non-ranking slider event)
The forecast for the weekend was already looking a bit uncertain but everyone knows anything can happen when the weather’s involved. So we packed our bags and kit and headed off to the South Coast with fingers crossed.
Friday arrived, the sun was shining and a breeze was blowing it was looking quite good. I registered for the Pro-ladies heats and rigged my kites. It was hoped that a sea breeze might kick in during the day as the South Coast is renowned for a sea breeze and the first heats would go ahead. After a little wait a mist started to appear across the sea, could this be a wind line appearing? We sat on the beach soaking up the much awaited sun, the hazy mist approaching further, visibility was starting to become poor and it was hard to spot that there were any kites in the sky.
Luckily the mist cleared, the sun popped out and the wind began to tease. It was enough to draw a few people to the water for a couple of runs and walk’s up the beach. A meeting was called to discuss whether to run the competition but it was decided there wasn’t enough wind and to change it to a slider event.
Thanks to ‘Zero Gravity’ bringing the slider it was set up and moored into position. Hat’s fastened and a few harsh dives of the kite to get going, it was off, aim and slide. We had the slider virgins like me attempting their first slide and some more impressive backside slides and slide handlepasses. It was great fun and definitely worth a shot well I thought so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
